Summary
The European University Institute defines both good practice and misconduct in academic research, and also elaborates on the formation of an Ethics Committee and defines a set of procedures for investigating and enforcing sanctions for misconduct, including acts that are arbitrary, biased or exploitative (EUI, 2019).Good practices are those that defend academic freedom and integrity, including such values as honesty, trust, fairness and respect. It briefly mentions the role of the institution of training in upholding those values. The major sources of academic misconduct are related to the misuse of intellectual property, for example, through plagiarism, piracy, misrepresentation of authorship ("personation"), and fabrication data or qualifications.
