British Columbia Teachers Federation - Code of Ethics

[Graph Issues]
Summary
This document (BCTF, 2020) is a minimalist set of ethical statements not united by any statement of purpose or overarching principles. It states that "a privileged relationship exists between members and students" and stresses the importance of refraining from exploiting that relationship, acting toward students with respect and dignity, and respecting their confidentiality. It also expresses solidarity with other members of the profession, for example, stating that criticism of other members will be conducted in private. Nonetheless, "it shall not be considered a breach of the Code of Ethics for a member to follow the legal requirements for reporting child protection issues."Content
